Travel has become integral to my process. I am drawn to seemingly opposing landscapes and the subtle threads that connect them—a shared colour, rhythm, scent or pattern that reveals an unexpected familiarity across place. This body of work brings together coastal environments, the desert landscapes of Joshua Tree and submerged underwater worlds. Rather than emphasising their differences, I explore their shared structures, gestures and palettes, dissolving the boundaries between land and sea, desert and garden, surface and depth.
Light is central to these paintings. Whether refracting through water or revealing the desert at dawn, it continually transforms colour, form and atmosphere. The shifting hues of Joshua Tree—from indigo and soft greys to cerulean, cobalt and warm gold—echo the changing colours of the ocean as light fades with depth. These works are driven by sensation as much as observation: the stillness before sunrise, the feeling of floating, the quiet rhythm of waves, and the resilience of plants that thrive in harsh conditions. By bringing these landscapes together, the paintings explore the unexpected similarities between them and the ways nature repeats itself across different environments.
