Wright is a prolific multidisciplinary artist with a diverse background in Painting and Drawing, Surface Pattern Design and Floral Artistry. Wright has formal training in in the Fine Arts from VCA and a BA (Honours) in Textile Design from RMIT.
Following her academic studies, Amy worked in corporate design studios within the Automotive Industry ( GM Holden and Detroit). She has also lecturered at RMIT in Textiles, Painting and Drawing, and was lead lecturer at design schoo, ISCD. She has worked as freelance designer in the textile design industry, as well as creating her own homewares textile brand and running a retail studio (A Shop called Milton) in Prahran Vic. Prior to becoming a mother in 2017, Amy ran and was the principle designer at ‘Wunderplant,’ a floral design business, specialising in Weddings and Events.
This varied background has strengthened and further driven her painting practice. Amy has painted for as long as she can remember. Directly influenced by the botanic materials and shifting landscapes around her, Wright works emulate the essence of botanical forms in their natural environment. Mediums are mixed and explorative, working across both canvas and paper, Wright creates highly tactile and textural surfaces. Landscapes are represented through rich colour, texture and rythmic abstract patterning, referencing the structure and details of plant forms in their landscape. Wright has a keen interest in the theme of light and colour and its interaction with objects and its play across landscapes.
She lives in the small semi-rural township of Ceres, in Greater Geelong, Victoria, and works from her garden studio.
